Position Title: Surgical Dental Assistant
Location: Hildebran, NC
Schedule: 4 Days per Week
Compensation: hourly (based on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Dental Assistant to join a well-established, high-performing dental practice in Hildebran, NC. This role is critical in supporting the doctor during advanced clinical and surgical procedures while ensuring a seamless, efficient, and comfortable experience for every patient.
The ideal candidate brings strong clinical expertise, confidence in surgical assisting, leadership ability, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. This individual will play a key role in maintaining clinical efficiency, upholding the highest standards of infection control, and contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Clinical & Surgical Assisting
- Provide chairside assistance during a variety of dental and surgical procedures, including:
- Dental implants
- Extractions (simple and surgical)
- Restorative and general dentistry procedures
- Anticipate doctor’s needs during procedures to ensure efficiency and optimal patient care
- Maintain clear visibility and proper instrument transfer techniques
Patient Care & Communication
- Prepare patients for treatment, ensuring comfort and understanding of procedures
- Deliver pre-operative and post-operative instructions clearly and professionally
- Monitor patient condition during procedures and respond appropriately
- Build trust with patients through excellent chairside manner and communication
Sterilization & Infection Control
- Follow all OSHA, CDC, and practice-specific infection control protocols
- Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment properly
- Ensure operatories are cleaned, disinfected, and prepared between patients
- Maintain compliance with all safety and regulatory standards
Radiography & Diagnostics
- Take high-quality digital X-rays in accordance with state regulations
- Assist with imaging and diagnostics to support treatment planning
Operatory & Clinical Efficiency
- Set up and break down operatories efficiently for each procedure
- Ensure all instruments, materials, and equipment are ready and functioning
- Maintain an organized and clean clinical environment
Inventory & Supplies
- Monitor clinical inventory levels and communicate supply needs
- Assist with ordering and stocking materials to ensure uninterrupted workflow
Leadership & Team Support
- Serve as a leader within the clinical team by setting a high standard of performance
- Support, mentor, and assist other team members when needed
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment
Administrative Support (as needed)
- Accurately document patient treatments and clinical notes
- Assist with scheduling coordination related to surgical procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of dental assisting experience (surgical experience strongly preferred)
- Experience assisting with dental implants, oral surgery, and extractions preferred

X-ray certification (required per state regulations)

CPR/BLS certification (required)
- Strong knowledge of infection control, sterilization, and OSHA standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Reliable, professional, and team-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dental software systems (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar)
- Previous experience in a surgical or specialty dental setting
- Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Clinical setting requiring prolonged standing and movement between operatories
- Ability to assist during extended procedures
- Must be able to lift and carry dental supplies and equipment as needed
- Adherence to all health, safety, and infection control protocols
